For “Meathooked” magazine, issue 2
They come from the poorest country of the Baltic States and have the most
professional demo covers I have seen this far. These kind of things can
happen (I hope you checked out Neglected Fields' “Sansara” which I
reviewed in the first issue). The beautiful colour covers tempt you to
buy this tape, and the music on it doesn't leave you cold. That's once
again a definite proof against those who doubt the strength and capability
of the Latvian scene. The band is called Heresiarh and they play - nothing
else but Romantic Dragon Metal, and it's about really original
fantasy-inspired melodic blackish metal strongly influenced by Baltic folk
music. A female is doing the leading vocals, and so less throat voice is
used, but that doesn't reduce the tempo; actually this is often faster
than many usual melodic BM-acts, and that's a good thing. Most of the
musical solutions are clever and the problems only a few. It isn't always
so clear, but still a highly recommendable purchase for anyone who wants
to hear such rarity as good genuine Black Metal art.
